Ralph Knowles Lord 1937 ~ 2006 I was born 12 April 1937 to Walter and Blanche Rebecca Stark Lord in Salt Lake City, Utah. My dad said that I was so shocked at the world that I didn't speak for about a year. I pursued my West High School sweetheart, Norma Jean Smith, until she finally caught me. We married 31 August 1956 in the Salt Lake Temple. I had a long musical career from singing and playing violin and clarinet in grade school to playing the flute in bands and orchestras in Jr. High and High School. I played with the Post Office Band for 20 years. I sang with the Swanee Singers (Deseret Male Chorus) for 10 years, culminating my career with 20 years with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I started with the Postal Service just out of high school, working at almost all jobs that were available at the time. Through the years, I was a carrier, clerk, supervisor, manager, acting Postmaster of Heber City, Utah, and, after 36 years, I finished my career as an internal auditor, traveling and auditing many Post Offices throughout the west. I was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filling many callings. I was finance clerk for over 24 years under five bishops and three stake presidents. I served for many years as family history extractor. I served on the Stake High Council and as an assistant High Priest group leader in the Sego Lily Ward. I am preceded in death by my parents; and my sister, Elaine Lord Williams. I am survived by my beautiful bride of over 50 years; five children, Michael Ralph Lord (Debbie), Valerie Ann Lord, Nolana Jean Rice (Stuart), Charlinn Annette Aagard (Dick), Clint Walter Lord (Tewie); 20 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving me are my three brothers and one sister, W. David Lord (Gloria), L. James Lord, Phillip Lord (Roxie) and Dianne Shaw (Roy). I would like to thank the staff at the Huntsman Cancer Institute for their loving kindness and care, and especially for Dr. John Weis who, with his kind personality, gave me encouragement throughout my ordeal. I would also like to thank the selfless service provided to my wife and me by our wonderful friends and neighbors and specifically by our kind hospice nurse, Jolene. Thank you. I had a good life and want you to know that. Please rally around my family and tell them how much you love them. I surely love them. A viewing will be held at Mountain View Memorial Mortuary, 3115 E. Bengal Blvd (7800 S.) Monday, Dec. 4th from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held at the LDS chapel, 9800 S. Flint Drive (1200 E.), Sandy, Tuesday, Dec. 5th at 1 p.m. A viewing will also be held an hour before the funeral begins.

50th Anniversary Thanks

Dear children, grand children, great grand children (which obviously includes spouses):

We would like to thank you for the wonderful evening celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary. There is nothing that could have been done to make it more perfect. Just having all of you there made it so special.

We especially enjoyed the entertainment: from the shower of bubbles to the last songs from the little people and the hugs afterwards. Everything was so perfect. It was more fun and more memorable than our reception 50 years ago.

The cake was beautiful, the food delicious, the room and decorations looked wonderful and the entertainment was fabulous (from the "bump, bump, bump" to Josh's renditions of "Earth Angel" and "If I Were a Carpenter" and all in between.

We appreciate the "love letters" from you. It is almost too emotional to get through reading them all.

The movie was almost too much emotionally, so many memories came back for each scene. It was almost like reliving our lives, which I suppose was the reason for the show. It was topped only by having all of you with us in person.

Each of you have your own special personalities and strengths that make up who you are. We love each of you for who you are and what you do to add to and strengthen the family.

We love all of you so much and thank you for your charity to us any time we are in need. Your willingness, also, to be there for each other is a charitable trait not found in too many families. You, indeed, have the true love of Christ in your hearts.

Love, kisses and all other kinds of affection,
